Tips for New VES Families
Welcome to Victoria Elementary! Whether you have started at VES or are just considering our school, we welcome you! Our goal is to be a resource for new and prospective families.
Arrival & Dismissal: School begins at 9:20 a.m. Teachers would like students to be in the building by 9:10. The school day ends at 3:50 pm. If you will be picking up your student early, please notify their homeroom teacher ahead of time so your child will be in the office for pickup.
Bus Transportation: Bus transportation information is placed on the parent portal about 3 weeks before the start of school. Bus information is not mailed to homes. If your child is having trouble on the bus or you have concerns about the bus, please contact Mrs. Best at 952-556-6611.
Absences: If your child will be absent from school please call 952-556-3019. This is the Nurse's voicemail box where you should leave your students name, homeroom teacher and reason for absence. You may also email your student’s homeroom teacher if you would like. If you do not report your student’s absence you will receive an automated call informing you of the absence.
Emergency School Closing: Watch for school closures on WCCO. VES will be listed as “Eastern Carver County Schools”. Parents will be notified via phone to all numbers on file via automated phone system. Please have a school closing plan in place for your student in case of early closing. Normal bus routes are followed in the event of early closing. Instructions for your child in case of early closing will be kept on file.
School Visits: Parents are always welcome at Victoria. Please make arrangements with your student’s teacher in advance. All visitors are required to provide identification and reason for their visit prior to entry into the building. Please have your driver’s license ready when entering the building. All visitors are required to wear a badge during their visit. If you would like to volunteer in your student’s classroom, please contact their homeroom teacher.
Lunch: Your student has a choice of bag lunch from home, hot lunch, and Yum Box (explained below).
Pre-pay lunch accounts are assigned to each student and may be paid for by check or online at www.mypaymentsplus.com. Check payments should be made payable to “District 112 Foodservice” and can be sent in an envelope with your student to be handed in to their homeroom teacher during the classroom morning routine. Please mark the envelope with your student’s name and homeroom teacher.
Applications for free and reduced lunch are available online at https://frapps.horizonsolana.com/welcome.
Yum-Box – What is a Yum Box you ask? It is all you could want in one package plus it's fun and healthy! There are four kinds of yum boxes, each served for a week. Visit the District 112 Nutritional Services webpage to learn more.
Join Your Student for Lunch: Feel free to join your VES student during his/her lunchtime – you can bring a special lunch for you both to enjoy or join them while they eat the school lunch. Parents may enjoy school lunch as well. Please let your student’s homeroom teacher know in advance if you will be eating school lunch. Adult lunch fees are $3.60. Your homeroom teacher can also tell you the specific lunch time.
Parent Teacher Conferences: Parent Teacher Conferences are an important channel of communication between home and school. Formal conference times are offered in the Fall and again in the Spring. Please also feel free to reach out to your student’s teachers via email throughout the year.
Family Changes: Changes in family life such as (but not limited to) income, relationships, serious illness and deaths can be scary and stressful. Please know that you are not alone. Our school social worker, Erin Dickie is an incredible resource to help you navigate these changes. Mrs. Velure can also help you through these changes and can help you find other parents who may have or are currently finding their way through similar situations.
Report Cards/Grades: District 112 utilizes Parent Portal for parents to view grades, progress, assignments and bus information for students. Login instructions are here. If you have a Gmail account, visit https://empower.district112.org and click Login with Gmail.
PBIS: PBIS is Victoria's behavior and support program through PRIDE. Students are expected to show Positive Behavior. We will provide Interventions and Supports for all students. Students who consistently PRIDE will be acknowledged through various PRIDE events. You may hear your student mention “Golden tickets” which is just one of the ways students are acknowledged.
Student Directory: The PTO publishes a Student Directory each year. Written permission is required for students to be included and inclusion in the directory is not required. The directory only includes information provided by parents/guardians which may include parent/guardian names address, phone number, student grade and homeroom. The directory is published as a convenience to parents and families. The PTO does not have access to district records to verify information provided by parents/guardians and is not responsible for confirmation of custodial rights or contact information.
Victoria Pride: Feel free to approach your VES teachers, VES staff and VES parents about anything! We are all here to help and welcome you to our wonderful Lakers.
